Beautiful, Delicious 4th of July Cookies

Let’s make AMAZING 4th of July Cookies To Celebrate Independence Day.

Patriotic 4th of July Cookies

Start with this wonderful secret family recipe for the BEST No-Spread Sugar Cookies.

Use Round and Star shaped cookie cutters and bake them. Allow to cool.

Then we decorate! This part is so much fun. It’s also a really great activity to do with friends and family.

4th of July Cookies | How to Decorate

I should note that the recipe below details how to decorate using frosting, but you can also use Colored Decorating Frosting Tubes as well. These are pre-made tubes that you attach different tips to. They are so easy to use and very kid friendly as well.

You will need: Icing Spatula. Piping Bags with No. 47 Tip OR No 47 Tip (screw on) with Blue and Red Decorating Frosting Tubes. Patriotic sprinkles with white stars. Red and Blue Sugar. White Cane Sugar. Red, White, and Blue Frosting. Can use homemade buttercream frosting recipe (or storebought) and dye a portion red and a portion blue. The buttercream will work for white. Use the large and medium round cookie cutter and the star cookie cutter to bake the cookies from the recipe above. NOTE: These cookies should not be considered stackable.

American Flag Cookies | How to Decorate

Use white frosting to frost the largest round cookie. Clean up the edges with the edge of the icing spatula. Open blue pre-made decorating frosting: unscrew cap, remove foil seal. Then screw on the No 47 basket weave tip.

There is a flat side and a side with teeth. Use the flat side facing up. In the upper left quadrant, create the blue portion of the flag by drawing in a right angle and then filling it in. Use the icing spatula to smooth out the blue section, cleaning up the edges as you go.

Then clean the icing spatula and the No 47 tip completely. You might require a wire cleaning brush to get into the nooks and crannie. Dry it a little.

When it’s clean and dry, open the red decorating frosting in the same manner as the blue. Then screw the No 47 tip onto the red tube. Use the flat side facing up. Then draw the stripes on the flag, following my placement from the video.

Apply even pressure to the tube as you go. Then open your patriotic sprinkles and separate out roughly 11 small white stars and carefully apply them to the blue area of the flag, spaced out as I have shown in the video. Press them carefully down a little bit when you’ve finished.

Red Stars & Round Cookies | How to Decorate

Use either the pre-made red frosting to frost the cookies or the homemade buttercream (that you’ve dyed red). Be sure to spread the buttercream as evenly as possible and clean up the edges with the icing spatula. On a plate, sprinkle red sugar all over the cookies, then gently turn the cookie on its side and tap the plate, getting most of the excess sugar off.

White Stars & Round Cookies | How to Decorate

Use either the pre-made white frosting to frost the cookies or the homemade buttercream. Be sure to spread the buttercream as evenly as possible and clean up the edges with the icing spatula. On a plate, sprinkle white cane sugar all over the cookies, then gently turn the cookie on its side and tap the plate, getting most of the excess sugar off.

Blue Stars & Round Cookies | How to Decorate

Use either the pre-made blue frosting to frost the cookies or the homemade buttercream (that you’ve dyed blue). Be sure to spread the buttercream as evenly as possible and clean up the edges with the icing spatula. On a plate, sprinkle blue sugar all over the cookies, then gently turn the cookie on its side and tap the plate, getting most of the excess sugar off.

White Patriotic Round Cookies | How to Decorate

Use either the pre-made white frosting to frost the cookies or the homemade buttercream. Be sure to spread the buttercream as evenly as possible and clean up the edges with the icing spatula. Take a handful of the patriotic sprinkles and add them to the top of the cookie. Gently push the sprinkles down so they meld into the frosting.

I hope you enjoy these cookies as much as we do!
