Homemade Almond Milk | So Easy & Delicious

Today we’ll be making real delicious homemade almond milk from scratch. I’m Allison with Simple Fantastic Kitchen. Thanks for joining me. Let’s get started.
Homemade Almond Milk | Equipment Needed
For this recipe, I recommend using a high powered blender. I’m using the Blendtec Total Blender Classic. I’ve had mine for over ten years and I highly recommend it. In fact, I recently did a ten year review of the Blendtec, which you can view right here:
Blendtec Blender | 10 Year Review
Now for the recipe.
Homemade Almond Milk | Recipe
We’ll start by adding four cups of water to the Blendtec. Then add one cup of raw unsalted almonds, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, one eighth a teaspoon of sea salt.
And now, if you’d like, you can choose to add a sweetener of your choice. If your sweetener is in liquid form like honey, agave, maple syrup, or liquid stevia, please start with one teaspoon. Then check to see if you would like it sweeter and add more one teaspoon at a time.
Today we will be sweetening our almond milk by adding two whole pitted dates.
Then select the whole juice setting on the Blendtec for one cycle.
After that’s done, you will notice the consistency. Although it’s very, very smooth there are teeny tiny little bits and chunks of almond that are going to be in there that you don’t really want for an almond milk.
So we’re going to strain that through a nut milk bag or cheesecloth. I’m using a nut milk bag today that has a draw string, which I highly recommend.
Now, you’re going to strain the liquid through the nut milk bag into some kind of a bowl, preferably a large container with a pour spout. I’m using my stand mixer bowl, which is very easy to work with.
Then we’re going to pour the liquid into the nut milk bag which is sitting opened inside of the mixing bowl. After you fill the bowl, please tie the draw string on the bag, then you carefully squeeze the bag.
So, you press carefully on the bottom of the nut milk bag and more milk comes out.

Once everything is squeezed from the bag, put the bag to the side. You can discard the tiny nut particles that remain inside the bag or choose to reuse them for another purpose, like an ice cream topping. You can either allow them to dry or use them wet immediately.
Once the nuts are removed, you can wash the nut milk bag by hand with dish soap and water, fully rinsing it, and allowing it to dry. The bags are fully reusable for the next batch of almond milk you want to make.
Go ahead and give the Blendtec one washing cycle by putting in a cup or two of water with a small amount of dish soap. Then run the blender for 15 seconds or so. Now rinse it thoroughly. This cleaning step is done to ensure no small particles of almond are left in the Blender before the next step.
Now pour the liquid from the mixing bowl back into the Blendtec. And run a cycle one more time for just absolute silky smoothness.
As a note, after straining the liquid, we’re really at about four cups of almond milk. This is good to know.
For the last step, just press pulse on the Blendtec for 3 to 5 times until it’s the consistency that you like.
Home Almond Milk | How Does It Taste?
That is so good. I drink almond milk all the time and it tastes richer than store bought. I think store bought is a lot more watered down. This tastes more like a whole milk almond milk would taste like. If that makes sense? Whereas the almond milk in the store, which I love, tastes more like a skim milk almond milk. Does that make sense? I hope so!
Homemade Almond Milk | Consistency
To me, this is top tier. This is awesome. But if you wanted to have it tastes more like store bought, my suggestion would be to add some more water to it during this final cycle, tasting it along the way until you get the consistency you like. I would just thin it down. But I would go through all of our first steps first.
I would blend it completely again to get to this point. I would split the recipe in half I would put a portion of it back into the jar with some more water, and I would just thin it down until it tasted the consistency that you enjoy.
I also recommend chilling it. mine is currently not chilled, which speaks to how good it is that it tastes good. It’s just a little above room temperature. But I would recommend chilling it overnight for just the optimum taste before drinking. And of course, you will want to store it in the refrigerator.
Homemade Almond Milk | Froth
There will be some froth that will appear at the top. You can kind of see it right here. If you wait 2 to 3 minutes before pouring into a glass. You can avoid pouring the foam in with the milk unless you’re using it for a cappuccino. Or you just enjoy foam. Then pour right away, or wait and add the foam with a spoon.
Cheers! I look forward to seeing you on the next one!

Homemade Almond Milk
Equipment
Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup almonds raw, unsalted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp sea salt
- 2 dates pitted
Instructions
- In a High Powered Blender, like the Blendtec Blender, add water, vanilla extract, almonds, sea salt, and pitted dates. Secure the lid. Then press the “Whole Juice” button for 1 cycle.
- Put the nut milk bag into bowl with pour spout. Pour contents of Blendtec jar into nut milk bag. Tie the drawstring on the nut milk bag. Then squeeze the bag until all the almond milk liquid comes out. Then remove the nut milk bag. Either discard the contents of the bag or reuse the small almond nut particles for another purpose, like an ice cream topping. Then hand wash the nut milk bag with water and dish soap. Rinse and dry completely and your re-usable nut milk bag is ready for your next batch of almond milk.
- Now do a traditional wash and rinse cycle on the Blendtec jar.
- Then pour the remaining liquid from the bowl back into the Blendtec jar. Secure the lid and press “Pulse” button for 3 to 5 times until it's the consistency that you like.
- Then chill, serve and enjoy.
