KitchenAid Hand Blender & Accessories Kit

Today I’m reviewing the KitchenAid Hand Blender and Accessories Kit. If you’ve been curious about or considering this blender kit for yourself, then you’ve come to the right place.

KitchenAid-Hand-Blender-and-Accessories-Kit

The KitchenAid Hand Blender and Accessories Kit is essentially a handheld tool designed to blend, puree, whisk and chop directly in pots, bowls or in its own blending jar. It allows you to make whole fruit and vegetable smoothies, soups, salad dressings, and baby food while also whipping creams with ease. I’m really excited because I’ve been wanting to buy this unit for quite a while and I finally own it. So, let’s get right into it.

For your information, I got the corded unit, but there is a cordless unit available with the exact same accessories kit.

Inside the box, you will find paperwork (including the manual and warranty information), the main body motor, the whisk adaptor and the whisk itself, the blending arm, the pan guard for the blender arm, the blending pitcher and lid, and the chopper accessory, which has three parts consisting of the chopper blade, the chopping bowl, and the chopper attachment lid (which is both a lid and connecting point with the motor body). That’s a lot of different accessories!

Now, let’s talk about each piece and how they work together.

The Motor Body

The motor body is the center of the action. It is the part that plugs in and connects to the other parts, bringing them to life. It has a variable speed controller which a trigger switch, which is a pressure sensitive button that allows you to vary the speed based on how hard you press it. The motor body has a durable, hard plastic outer shell and electronic inner workings. The motor body should be unplugged every time you change an attachment head.

The Blending Arm

Now let’s talk about the blending arm. It’s made of stainless steel and the shell of the upper body is made of durable, hard plastic. Together with the motor body, it functions as an immersion blender. The 4-point stainless steel blade quickly blends and purees ingredients for smoothies, shakes, soups, dressing, hummus and more. You can use it with the pan guard to protect your cookware when using the blender arm directly into a pot or other surface that stainless steel could damage. The pan guard is made of durable, hard, BPA-free food safe plastic.

The Whisk Accessory

Next we have the whisk and whisk adaptor, which combine to make the whisk accessory. Together with the motor body, the whisk accessory can be used to create batters, whipping cream, whipped egg whites and more. The whisk attachment is made of stainless steel and the whisk adaptor is made of durable, hard plastic.

The Chopper Accessory

Next we have the chopper accessory, which is 2.5 cups and made up of BPA-free plastic and a stainless steel blade. Together with the motor body, you can use the chopper accessory to chop herbs, nuts, cheeses and more.

The Blender Pitcher

And last, we have the blender pitcher which holds up to 4 cups. The blending pitcher can be used with the blending arm and the whisk accessory. The height of the blender pitcher is the recommended maximum height for usage so that the motor body never gets submerged.

The lid is made up of two pieces. Together, the two pieces make a seal so that recipes that you’ve created in it stay fresh longer. But if you separate the two pieces, you have an outer lid that functions as a splash guard while using, which I think is a great feature. By the way, every piece of plastic that touches food on these parts is BPA-free, food grade plastic.

Washing & Care Instructions

Let’s talk about the washing and care instructions.

The motor body should never be washed or immersed in any liquids or other mixtures. If food gets onto it while using, take a slightly damp cloth and wipe it down with care.

In regards to the rest of the parts, I’m going to be honest with you. I got contradictory information on this when I started researching. Some say certain items are dishwasher safe on the top rack. Others say this jeopardizes the longevity of the materials and the seals between products. Read the manual for yourself and do what you feel comfortable doing.

My recommendation is that you only hand wash the majority of these parts. I would say the Blender pitcher, chopper bowl, chopper blade and whisk are probably fine in the dishwasher’s top rack only. My advice is to hand wash everything else.

Also important is to separate the items before washing. An example would be to separate the whisk from the whisk adapter and wash each piece separately.

Different Colors Available

Just FYI, this corded version of the kit comes in several different colors including black, white, red, blue velvet and aqua sky, which is the color I have.

How To Use It

I found using each accessory really easy and intuitive. I will be releasing a full review video soon with visual instructions on how to use the kit and some really great recipes that use each accessory piece.

For the most part, it’s a basic twist to lock system. All the accessories twist to lock into place with the motor body (except for the chopper accessory… the motor body goes straight down onto it with no twisting).

Then you press the variable speed controller. Start at a low speed, gradually increasing to the power that you need for the specific recipe at hand. When using the chopper accessory, a lot of times you will do short bursts with the variable speed controller or power button.

How Well Does It Work?

I made homemade marinara sauce, creamy tarragon dressing, smoothies, and whipped cream with this unit and it did an amazing job on all of them.

I used the blender arm, the blender pitcher and splash guard and  smoothie came out perfectly smooth, pulverizing whole frozen fruit in just a minute or two. And no splashing outside the container.

I used the hand blender attachment with the pan guard to make marinara sauce right in the pot and it worked perfectly, allowing me to make a perfectly pureed sauce out of whole tomatoes, onions, garlic and spices. And the pan guard perfectly protected my nonstick pan.

I used the whisk attachment to make absolutely perfect whipped cream in about two minutes. And I used the chopped attachment to chop garlic, shallots and herbs for my creamy tarragon dressing. It did a beautiful job.

How to Take It Apart

When you are done using the hand blender arm and the whisk attachment, twist to unlock them. When you are finished with the chopper attachment, just pull the motor body straight up and off. Wash the units as described above.

My Final Review

So, is the KitchenAid Hand Blender and Accessories Kit worth it? I say absolutely yes. There’s a convenience and versatility to this device that is unparalleled. It’s easy to use and with a few twists, you can go between having a high powered blender, a power whisk and a chopper, all with one device.

And I can do tasks right in the bowl or pot I’m preparing them in. And with the pan guard, there’s no risk of damaging that cookware, which is an amazing and overdue invention.

The design of the blender pitcher is perfect. It’s an all in one unit. It’s a pitcher that functions as a measuring cup, blender jar, storage container, and pouring device. And the lid is so intelligently designed with its two part, airtight container and splash guard function. Everything was thought of when designing this whole device for functionality and ease of use.

My only complaint is that the box it came in doesn’t function as a storage box as easily as with other KitchenAid products with many parts.

But I alleviated that by buying a separate storage container that safely and neatly accommodates all the pieces except for the blender pitcher and the chopper accessory, which will easily store on a shelf.

I will leave that storage unit I bought right here, in case you want to check it out: Storage Unit for KitchenAid Hand Blender & Accessories Kit.

The bottom line is, this unit is easy to work with and the results are fantastic. I am so glad that I bought this. And by the way, I did buy this. Nobody sent me the product! Honestly, I’m so happy that I bought the KitchenAid Hand Blender and Accessories Kit.

As mentioned earlier, KitchenAid offers this same kit in a cordless model. At this time, it’s rechargeable and seems to have great function. For me, I bought  the corded model because nothing I will be doing will be that far away from an outlet! But for your convenience, here are links to the both the Cordless KitchenAid Hand Blender and Accessories Kit and also the Corded KitchenAid Hand Blender and Accessories Kit. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you on the next one!
